I heart Norwegian Wood

I went to the Independent Fashion Bloggers party at Shoreditch's Last Days of Decadence on Monday night, where I saw the lovely Laura from Pop Sugar and met Frankie from Swell Vintage. It was such a great idea to get bloggers together, I really think its something that should be done as much as possible, we clearly all have lots in common.

When we arrived there were a small handful of flyers to be collected on the door, one of which was for the fantastic etsy shop I heart Norwegian Wood. On the bus this morning I decided to check out the shop and lo and behold it is quite special. Hyped in the blogosphere by Susie Bubble and Queen Michelle from Kingdom of Style amongst others ILNW sells cage skirts, leggings, peplums and the gorgeous necklaces as displayed above, this is one etsy store you cannot miss. Prices are reasonable, which at the moment is a good thing!

You can visit the shop here and I strongly recommend you do, dont expect to leave empty handed though.

The photos from the bloggers party should be up on the ifb site soon so do click the link on my blog to their site and check them out.

Vivienne Westwood Red Label

Apparently the queues for Vivienne Westwood's LFW show was huge, she still pulls a crowd our Viv. I hear the tweed was sending everyone wild, however, have given the show a B- in true school report style.

Models included Jourdan Dunn, Dasiy Lowe and Alice Dellal. At the end of the show Vivienne Westwood came out to greet the audience.

I must have this snood

What the fashionistas are wearing at LFW

If you are an avid fashion fan like myself then I strongly advise you get yourself following TimesFashion on Twitter, the lovely people at The Times and Sunday Times are twittering from LFW, according to them the following trends are strong amongst the fashionistas:

Stonewashed denim (everywhere apparently)

Candy Floss blazers (in colour, not made from the food stuffs one would assume)

Battered brogues

Statement knits (get thee to Topshop for these)

Pink lipstick pretty much the Topshop Unique show from Feb, ok? Ok.

London Fashion Week - some facts

I have been reading the Daily Telegraph's website (obsessed much?) and good old HA has come up with some amazing facts about London Fashion Week that I just had to share:

The event will move from the historic site at The National History Museum to the new venue of Somerset House, Harold Tillman, chairman of the British Fashion Council, announced yesterday.

London Fashion Week generates 50 million pounds worth of orders every season.

London Fashion Week - Topshop Unique

Any frequent readers of this blog will be aware of my slight obsession with Topshop Unique, weirdly I never seem to buy that much but always have it in mind when planning my outfits.

Topshop Unique unveiled their brand new collection for Autumn Winter 09/10 at London Fashion Week, HIlary Alexander described the collection with the below

Track-pants, sweat-tops, hoodies and all-in-ones were sequinned in futuristic, Day-Glo brights. Loose sweatshirts were printed with UFO’s or with scenes of flying saucers hovering over cityscapes.

The powerful, super-sporty silhouette was inspired by sci-fi movies and the space-age uniforms inevitably worn by the denizens of extraterrestrial craft, with figure-hugging dresses and tunics layered over leggings.

As a contrast, there were more tribal pieces, based upon nomadic communities, where shaggy and hairy-textured capes and anoraks were contrasted against the gloss and slick of Lycra and leather or layered over harem-style shell-suits.

So think punk/grunge for Autumn / Winter 09/10, in the front row were Pixie & Peaches, VV Brown (who I saw last night) and Daisy Lowe. La Roux's brand new single In For The Kill was the track that opened the show.

Get making your Lady Gaga style snood, shove some shoulder pads in your tops, get some bleach on your denim and buy a parka before they get really expensive.

Marc Jacobs, I love you, you're raising me up are calling it 'Marc Jacobs' love letter to eighties era New York', the perfect anti thesis to the credit crucnh - are saying that all the NYFW girls are rocking dark colours so Mark is bucking all of the trends in his native NYC, despite being a permanent resident in Paris these days.
The girls each had a different hair style, from mohawk to bouffant and make up was flourescent, here are some of my favourite outfits from the show.

The pleats in this lame dress are beautiful and the heavy duty belt gives a harsh industrial feel to this coarse fabric

Who would have thought that the gauntlet glove would be making a come back in such a classy way?

Strange material winter floral

Can someone put this pink dress into my wardrobe please? Fantastic structure, great accessories

These trousers are cut beautifully

Brocade? Shoreditch in one week, i betcha

Edgy shape, not sure about the leggings

In summary: shoulder pads are going to be huge, tulip skirts will again be popular (small steps necessary), peg leg trousers are not going away, bright pastels will rock your winter wardrobe

Told you so

Yep those Alexander Wang boots are 100% my new obsession, photo from Jak & Jil

Hello Miss Sixty?

I like this, hey, it could have been a Topshop Unique from last season though, who cares.

I also love this, the shoulder pads rock

Diane von Furstenburg

I was not expecting this outfit to come from DvF's latest collection, woop that layering is staying put, woop that leopard print (of some description) is going nowhere and go DvF for the Nomad collection, its cool, brave, young and stylish - she says 'at times like these all a girl wants is a little pizazz' - you betcha.

Boy by Band of Outsiders

I do love this look - very Parisian, which makes sense as this collection was inspired by 'chic French Revolutionaries from Godard's La Chinoise' according to

Could just as easily by Jaegar though, right?

NEXT...Jonathan Saunders

The next target on my NY Fashion Week list is Jonathan Saunders, I first fell in love with his clothes when I saw Kelly Osbourne wearing a floor length gown of his on Porject Catwalk, I then saw the dress at a sample sale but alas still couldn't afford it. His theme this collection was birds and very colourful ones at that. He uses colour well generally but this collection is one of his more colourful yet. The above jacket really stands out for me, the pattern cutting involved to create the shoulder scallop makes the coat look extremely classy while the external zip retains an air of cool.

This dress is something I would love to wear but never would, the primary colours and houndstooth are a great combination while the simple accessorising with thick black tights will always be classy in my book.

The above jacket is luxe, almost sportswear so very dressed down for Saunders but the shoulders give it an edgy cape like appearance

This dress is reminiscent of Marc Jacobs Concrete Jungle print yet with the shape of a skater dress

Look at the shoulders, slightly Margiela? The longer dresses really are not my kind of thing, hence sticking to showing you all the shorter dresses.

The skater skirt and tight bodice look great, this look could be easily recreated with vintage and maybe the American Apparel skater dress, hmm. Need to give that a go.

Jonathan Saunders really emphasized the waist and legs with this collection, looks like we're going to have to get the pins in shape and a Mad Men waistline pronto.

The eternal problem

I can never find bras to fit my small back and fuller chest so when I read about underwear label Panache creating a younger, more fun version of their bigger bras in a range called Cleo I was pretty impressed. After all, its so depressing when places like Marks & Spencers equate big cup size with being generally fat and Topshop ignore the fact that anyone might have more than a C cup.

So, here's to the Cleo range, prices are do able - £14 for the knickers, £28 for the bra. I think I may have to invest, these are currently selling at Bravissimo and I imagine they will be rolled out across the breadth of the high street or at least online shopping world soon.

Alexander Wang - New York Fashion Week

I'm blogging on the bus so excuse my typos, there are bound to be a few. I was following the Nylon twitter last night only to read that Kanye was sitting in the Vogue section of the Alexander Wang show. Kanye has been shot in NYC by the Sartorialist recently, he always looks dapper. Anyway enough Kanye lusting and now back to Wang err, yes.

Winner of Vogue's cfda award he certainly appears to have kicked off NYC fashion week in style. Telegraph fashion editor and role model extrodinaire Hilary Alexander reports that the a/w 09/10 collection was very rocknroll, channeling body con to the max but with ultra sexy fabric cut outs throughout. Models strutted their stuff to the strains of GunsnRoses, judging from his shoe range which is being sold exclusively at Browns in the uk we can expect lots more rocknroll garb from alex who recently proclaimed that he makes his clothes for girls who wear their black nail varnish chipped, sounds like my kinda person. Now if only I had a trust fund, Alex wins for best show so far.

Elle Style Awards

I do love the Elle Style Awards, Courtney Love scooped the Woman of the Year Award (for what, exactly I'm ot sure but its clear from Elle editorial that Lorraine Candy loves her so maybe thats enough?)

Alexa Ching presented the event in an amazing Chanel number, Christopher Kane won Designer of the Year - for those animal prints he surely deserves it. Model of the year went to Rosie Huntington Whitley who recently graced the cover of Vogue. Fashion Future Award went to Erdem and Sienna Miller won ELLE Style Icon.

Here are some of my favourite pics from the night...

Do It Yourself

There is a great sense of accomplishment to be gained from a bit of DIY, also, if you have bought too many pairs of rip off Rick Owens boots you may find that DIY is the only way you are going to be able to have something new this month (Errmm).

Now if you have tried to click on the link above, soz because it is purely a screen grab from the Urban Outfitters website. Whether you have someone to buy a Valentines Card for or not this Saturday I bet you give the Origami heart a go. Go here to get all of the designs.

While I'm on the subject I will hark back to Observer Woman again (they are not paying me honest), this month was the DIY issue featuring easy (ish) designs to re create the following:

Jade Jagger bracelet
Vivienne Westwood dress
Paul Smith shirt
Alice Temperley dress
Martin Margiela waistcoat

There is a video to show you how to create the Jade Jagger bracelet (I might have to try that tomorrow!) and pdfs for the rest if you dont have the magazine like the one below.

I have taken this directly from the OW website...hope I dont get in trouble!
